«YUZHNIY GOK» Mining and Processing Plant is the number one enterprise in the Eastern European countries in the field of open-pit mining and beneficiation of low-iron magnetite quartzites aimed at obtaining iron ore concentrate and blast furnace sinter.

The plant was built in a very short time. In 1952 the project task was approved, and on July 27, 1955 the first ton of concentrate was produced (and in 2 months the first ton of sinter was obtained).

The annual productivity reached by the first phase of the plant amounted to: 9 million tons of raw ore; 4 million and 446 thousand tons of concentrate; and 2 million 625 thousand tons of sinter, respectively. In 1961, the second stage of the plant was put into operation.

The labor collective of the «YUZHNIY GOK» Mining and Processing Plant were fortunate enough to become pioneers in the scale of the entire mining industry of the country. With their work and perseverance they were able to prove the viability of many scientific developments, to master technologies and test new mining and processing equipment, which yesterday lived only within the imagination of engineers and designers.

There were no similar enterprises in Eastern Europe. So the «YUZHNIY GOK» Mining and Processing Plant became an experimental industrial site, where the skills of drilling and blasting, as well as the ore beneficiation technology were honed with jewelry precision. Over the years, the experience of the «YUZHNIY GOK» Mining and Processing Plant has become indispensable in the commissioning of related companies across the country.

It was at the «YUZHNIY GOK» Mining and Processing Plant where for the first time in the USSR fire and cone drilling machines were used in the quarry, short-delay blasting during mass explosions was introduced, a multi-stage magnetite quartzite beneficiation scheme was mastered, the first industrial tests of enriched oxidized ores were conducted, and also the schematic diagram of production of iron ore pellets was worked out.

«YUZHNIY GOK» Mining and Processing Plant has truly become a forge of highly qualified personnel. Specialists of the enterprise later “leveled up” other mining and processing plants of Kryvyi Rih built in the 1960s, held senior positions at other industrial enterprises and also in the state apparatus of the country.

Over the past six decades, the laborers of the «YUZHNIY GOK» Mining and Processing Plant have had to go through different times – from record production levels in the 1980s, to a huge decline in production in the 1990s and its stabilization in the 2000s.

Today the company has a period of ascent again. Long-term investment program and social projects being implemented currently give reasons to talk about the «YUZHNIY GOK» Mining and Processing Plant as a successful, modern and socially oriented enterprise. In particular, thanks to the company’s social investments, the residential area of the «YUZHNIY GOK» Mining and Processing Plant is now one of the most cozy and picturesque corners of Kryvyi Rih.
